Recap: Sacred Heart Parish Reunion 2024
What an evening! Temperatures were high and it threatened rain, but we didn’t care. We were all inside, comfortable and having a feast. And… the rain held off until it was over. God was once again on our side.
We hosted just under 200 people, many current parishioners and some from the past. We heard many surprised shouts as people were calling out to each other. After people checked in, they went straight to the nine tables of food. Several parishioners who submitted recipes to the cookbook, brought their dishes to share with the community along with the Hispanic Ministry helping to feed everyone. We thank Dane DeDecker and Alan Knack for fixing lasagna to ensure we had plenty of food. It worked! There were only a few leftovers at the end of the evening.
It seemed, a popular place to visit was the beer window. Besides its being right next to the dessert table, people were searching for the St. Damien’s Belgian Brew craft beer. A big shout out to Front Street Brewery for putting together a special brew for our event. Lest we forget the guys who eagerly volunteered to go taste test the beer to be sure we had the perfect recipe. It was their toughest job that week, but they seemed to manage.
After people enjoyed visiting and getting their fill of the feast, many meandered to the Fellowship end of the building to check out those activities. Some went down to the Auction/Raffle room and others continued on farther to check out the games. Some of the young ones braved the heat and went outside to enjoy the Jumping Joey Bounce House. A big thank you to the adults that also braved the heat to keep an eye on that house.
The decorations were a preview of the upcoming holiday as we were surrounded by red, white, and blue flowers, balloons and crepe paper. We thank Nancy Vasquez for donating our balloon arch, under which many were able to take pictures. She also added balloons to a few raffle items.
Both the Silent Auction and the Raffle were quite a success. For that, we thank many businesses in our community and our parishioners who supported our efforts. The committee worked very hard to put all those items together. But none of it would have mattered had you not shown up and given us your support. Thank you to all who came to the reunion and those of you who bid on items and purchased raffle tickets.
The entire committee worked very hard to put this together. If you remember, this came after our closing weekend of the 100th anniversary celebration and many people were on both committees. They deserve a standing ovation for all their hard work.
