In September 1906, Peoria Bishop John L. Spalding assigned Fr. John Baptist Culemans to form a new Catholic Parish in Moline to serve the spiritual needs of the large Belgian immigrant population who had made Moline, Illinois their home.

The parish, Sacred Heart, has served Catholics of Moline and surrounding areas for over 100 years.
