Ministry Spotlight: Pastoral Care

WHAT is that?

Answer :

A) No clue

B) Something the priests and deacons do

C) Parishioners, along with the ordained clergy who bring a compassionate presence by sharing Communion, prayers and being the face of our Sacred Heart community.

Correct answer: (C) when in doubt…..guess (C)!!!

I am Marcia Zerull and the current coordinator of the Pastoral Care Team. Our team ministers to our faith community through visits to hospitals, care facilities, and to the homebound. Before you think that “I can’t do that,” let me assure you, 95% of the lay people on this team have said just that! The first part is the discernment process that the parish staff and myself can help you navigate. You pair up with an experienced minister who can show you the logistics of the visit. You do not do this on your own! A valid concern is the time commitment. That is very flexible and is the choice of the minister. Those we administer to are so appreciative of receiving Communion and being remembered by Sacred Heart.

What better time than this to be open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit? Without fail, those who we minister to are so grateful, and we in turn are grateful to the gift they are to us, and to the Sacred Heart community. Please contact the parish staff or myself with any questions.

If you know a member of the community who would like a visit from this ministry, please contact us to let us know!

Blessings,

Marcia Zerull (309) 781-9787
