Deacon’s Corner - That Man Is You
Last month, I had the opportunity to serve on the Boys Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) weekend. The leader of the weekend, Scott Ronnebeck, and several other men who served with me on the presenting team belonged to an organization called “That Man Is You” (TMIY) and invited me to attend one of their weekly meetings. I was told that TMIY is a Catholic men’s organization, based in Texas, focused on supporting men in their role as spiritual leaders of their family by honestly addressing the pressures and temptations that men face in our modern culture. So, the next Friday morning, I yawned and rolled out of bed at 5:30 a.m. so that I could be on time for the meeting. When I arrived, I was pleased to find the room filled with about 40 men, many of whom I knew. They made me feel right at home with the group, and I have attended every week since.
TMIY is currently holding a membership drive. All men, ages 18 and older, are welcome. Weekly meetings are held at Cleary Hall at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in East Moline. Doors open on Fridays at 6:00 a.m. for coffee, doughnuts and fellowship. The meeting follows at 6:30 a.m. Each meeting begins with prayer and news of activities at local parishes, followed by a short video on various faith topics. Afterward there is time for discussion. The meeting ends with a closing prayer promptly at 7:30 a.m. to accommodate those who are in the workforce.
If you are looking for a great place to grow your Catholic faith with like-minded men, I invite you to come to the next meeting to give TMIY a try.
God Bless,
Deacon Mike
