29th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Parishioners,
This is the day we have been anticipating for many months. 100 years ago, the cornerstone of Sacred Heart Church was laid. Many hours of planning have been put into this celebration. I would like to thank all those involved in the monumental task of coordinating this day. If I start listing names I would not know where to begin and end and I surely would miss someone who deserves recognition. Parishioners have been extremely generous with their time. I would mention that Connie Morris volunteered to chair the large committee to plan this day. I thank her for doing that. She would be the first to say that she did not work by herself but relied on many others.
In the scriptures we read:
“The stone is of value for you who have faith. For those without faith, it is rather,
A stone which the builders rejected that
Became a cornerstone.
It is likewise ‘an obstacle and a stumbling stone.’ Those who stumble and fall are the disbelievers in God’s word; it belongs to their destiny to do so.
You however are ‘a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people he claims for his own to proclaim the glorious works of the One who called you from darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were no people, but now you are God’s people; once there was no mercy for you, but now you have found mercy.”
Sacred Heart Parish has been the cornerstone of many people’s faith lives for over 100 years. This is a sacred place that has offered inspiration for many and it has offered solace to others in times of sadness. We give thanks for this holy spot on this anniversary and we offer prayers that this church will continue to be a place of mercy and kindness for sinners and saints alike.
Happy Anniversary,
Fr. Mark
