19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioners,

Today we are having a Stewardship Sunday.  We have several ministries that we need volunteers for.  This involves donating some time and being willing to serve in the name of Jesus.

One of the very important ministries at Sacred Heart is serving funeral luncheons.  We can have 50 of these a year.  People, who are in mourning, appreciate having fellowship after a funeral.  Our funeral luncheon ministry serves a meal.  This sympathetic gesture is greatly appreciated by grieving families.  Maybe your family has benefited from this ministry.  Can you give back?  Anyone is eligible. You don’t even have to be able to boil water.

We also need people to serve as clerks in our Blessings gift shop.  This is a unique ministry to Sacred Heart.  No one in the Illinois Quad Cities offers this ministry.  Can you give a few minutes of your time before or after Mass?  This is a unique way to evangelize.

We also need Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist at all our Masses.  Since we have so many E.M.’s there is constant turn over.  We usually recruit a couple of times a year.  There is also a need for Parish Greeters.  Can you be hospitable to the stranger?  Sign up this weekend and next.

Thanks to all who faithfully participate in these ministries.  Please join these ministries if you are able.

Bless you,

Fr. Mark DeSutter

P.S.  As everyone can see, two of the major windows have been removed from our church so they can be restored and re-leaded.  These windows will be reinstalled at the end of September and into October.  Later that month more windows will be removed to be fixed.  Our Today Tomorrow Together campaign monies are being used for these repairs.  You can also see the school tuck pointing is being completed.  I was at Christ the King last week.  Roofs have been replaced there and major concrete work is being done. Infrastructure work is being completed that will benefit the Moline Catholic community for years to come.  We are spending the money exactly as we promised. The visual evidence of that is all around us.  The campaign continues.  If you would like to sponsor a stained-glass window, we continue to take donations.  Just call Bobbie Vidmar in our office (309-762-2362, ext. 204.)
