Feast of Christ the King

Dear Parishioners,

I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving weekend.   A homily was given by a Priest one Sunday about thankfulness.  He said we have a lot to be thankful for.

He said, “We give thanks for the abundance in our lives.”  He looked up from his notes to see a migrant family that had just arrived in the country.  They were living in a homeless shelter in the community and had no permanent jobs.

He next said, “We give thanks for our families.”  He then noticed a woman in the congregation who had just lost her husband, a woman who had no children.  She was pretty much alone in the world.

The preacher then said, “We give thanks for good health.”  He saw several people in the assembly who had chronic health problems.  One person had terminal cancer.

Finally, he said, “Even when there is nothing else to give thanks we still can give thanks for our redeemer Jesus Christ. He is there for us when we have little, when we feel alone, when we are struggling through a dark day Jesus is here.”  The priest looked up and he saw people nodding.

We do give thanks for the faith that draws us together this Sunday and every Sunday.  We are never forsaken.  Jesus is with us in this Eucharist and in this community.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Fr. Mark
