22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Parishioners,
Happy Labor Day! This weekend we mark the end of the summer season. I don’t know about you, but it seems like time has just flown by. Mostly this is because, even in summer, we all are very busy. My theory is that we put things off throughout the year feeling like we will catch up in the summer. We postpone leisure, medical exams, visits with relatives and whatever we can, thinking, “I will get to that later.” Then we rush from one thing to the next during the summer season and time passes quickly. When fall comes we don’t feel quite ready. Perhaps that is why we need to carve out moments throughout the year for reflection and prayer. We cannot put it off. A priest I know once said, “If we are too busy to pray we are too busy.”
We start off the fall season next weekend with a Parish Festival after the 11 a.m. Mass. There will be food and fun for all. We highlight a parish organization each year to celebrate. This year we will be recognizing the Boy Scouts as they commemorate their 100th year at Sacred Heart. I hope that many of you can stop in and spend a few minutes or a couple hours on the lawn outside Culemans Hall. Please check the bulletin for other details. I thank the social committee for the hard work in putting this together.
Finally, I would like to give a little report on the progress of the Capital Campaign. Presently, we are recruiting leadership and developing a theme and case studies for the fundraising. This will be happening over the next couple weeks. There is a steering committee in place with representatives from Christ the King, Seton School and Sacred Heart. All the members are putting in a lot of hours to move this effort forward. I am sure that everyone on the steering committee would request your prayers. This is a huge undertaking, but we are very much aware that we are not serving ourselves, but we are trying to serve Jesus Christ as we try to build up his Kingdom. He is our partner in all that we do. That gives us hope as we move forward
Have a Wonderful Holiday,
Fr. Mark
