16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioner,

The fall is approaching fast. This means that Seton School will be opening soon. We have had a Catholic School at Sacred Heart from the earliest days of the parish’s history which dates back to the turn of the 20th century. Fr. Culemans believed in the importance of education. He also believed that a good education was the key to immigrants becoming part of American Society. Many people have been educated at our grade school and have gone on to successful careers. I meet visitors all the time who come back to Sacred Heart and they speak fondly of their grade school experience. We could say that the original goal that Fr. Culemans had has been achieved.

There was another goal that was on his mind which was that the school would form disciples of Jesus Christ. United States Catholics of the 20th century got some of the best faith formation of any Catholics in the world. We would have to say, that the rest of the church looked at the American church with awe.

The twin goals of offering wonderful academic training and faith formation continue today. We still have immigrants who come to Seton. The racial make-up is different, but they have the same desire for a good education so they can chase the American dream. We still form children in their faith practice. Families are led into the church and quite often they are as they become involved in Seton School.

I would encourage families to see what Seton School offers. You can still register. There are openings in all grade levels. If your family has a question about the cost of Seton School please contact the school office at 757-5500. Scholarship monies are available.

Call today and have your children start this fall.

Blessings,

Fr. Mark
