13th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Parishioner,
We have two events coming up soon that I would like to encourage people to participate in. The first is our parish picnic. This is a chance for us to get together and socialize. It will be on July 9th. This is a way of building community. We can get in a rut of coming to church, celebrating Mass and then going home. Hopefully, we want more than that from our parish life. It is nice, on a summer afternoon, to just slow down and enjoy each other’s company. Come and join in from noon to 3 p.m. next Sunday. This will also be a chance to meet and welcome Fr. Matthew (see below).
The other event that is fast approaching is our Vacation Bible School. This is an event that is for pre-school through fifth graders. There is fun, games, but must of all it is a chance for the youngsters to grow closer to the Lord. You can register on line or you may take a form found at the church doors this week and return it to sign-up. I would hope that we would have a wonderful turnout. I thank anyone who supports our parish activities in any way.
July 4th always marks the half way point of summer. Somehow it seems like the school year is just around the corner. Next Sunday we will be having our quarterly Stewardship Sunday. We will be reminded that we must give our time to our parish if we are going to prosper at Sacred Heart. We will be recruiting people to participate in our Art and Environment Committee, Social Activity Committee, Welcome Committee and as Catechists in our religious education program. Please pray over whether you can offer your time and talents. Our Lord is counting on you.
Blessings,
Fr. Mark
P.S. We announced earlier that we would put a coat of roofing material on the north end of Culemans Hall to extend the life of the roof. We finished that this week. See the picture below. Thanks to all who have donated to the Heart to Heart Fund who helped fund this project. We have other capital projects that are ongoing. We will keep you informed about those.
P.P.S. People have been asking when we will get another priest to help. The latest word is that a Society of African Mission Father will send us a priest on July 7th. His name is Fr. Matthew Abu Cole. Fr. Cole will be with us a couple of months. He is finishing a sabbatical before he returns to Africa. He will not be assigned here as a parochial vicar, but will be visiting. I look forward to his arrival. Hopefully, the Society will be able to offer us more permanent help later.
Wishing you all a Happy and Safe Fourth of July!
