A Month of Milestones

Part of the appeal of Catholicism is that we have many special celebrations that mark milestones in our lives. During the month May we have First Communions and graduations here at Sacred Heart and Seton School.

Sacred Heart Capital Campaign Frequently Asked Questions

Sacred Heart parish, in conjunction with Seton Catholic School, Christ the King, St Mary’s Moline, St. Maria Goretti in Coal Valley and Our Lady of Peace in Orion are collectively conducting a Capital Campaign feasibility study. During April and May each parish will determine whether or not there is strong enough support to move forward in addressing the needs of each parish and Seton. If the parishes and parents indicate a high level of support, they would embark upon an ambitious Capital Campaign starting in fall of 2018.

May Crowning: May 13 2018

It may be one of your first “Catholic” memories: May Crowning. The songs are still— and always—in our heads. Hail, holy Queen enthroned above, oh Maria. Hail, mother of mercy and of love, oh Maria. Triumph all ye cherubim, Sing with us ye seraphim. Heaven and earth resound the hymn. Salve, Salve, Salve Regina.

Ministry Spotlight: The Back 9

This month we spoke with the Back 9 about their ministry providing social gatherings outside Mass for parishioners.

Jesus Risks Himself in Service

Pope Francis, speaking during his homily during the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at Regina Coeli prison, contextualized the Gospel passage from John in which Jesus washes his disciples’ feet.

Seton Walk-A-Thon: May 11, 2018

Seton families will receive their 2018 Walk-A-Thon pledge packets following the kick-off assembly on Friday, April 13. For the assembly, each Seton student will receive a free Walk-A-Thon t-shirt courtesy of our VERY generous sponsors Source One Graphics, Southeast National Bank, McLaughlin Body, ORA Orthopedics, and Gett Industries.

Coffee Café

Coffee Café is a fun way to share fellowship with other parishioners after Mass, on the second Sunday of most months. We do take July – September off (our summer). We invite parishioners to join us any time after 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 am on those mornings.

Confirmation: April 15, 2018

We continue our Easter celebrations during the month of April with the Sacrament of Confirmation for our eighth-grade students. This year we will have 53 students receiving the Confirmation which will be held on Sunday, April 15, at 2PM.

Sacred Heart Celebrates the Sacrament of Holy Communion

Of all seven sacraments, the Holy Eucharist, or Holy Communion, is the most central and important to Catholicism. For the first time on Sunday, May 6 and Sunday May 13 at our 11:00am Masses our second-grade students will experience their First Holy Communion. Let us keep these young ones in our prayers as they receive the Body and Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Capital Improvements and Growth

Dear Parishioners, During the upcoming weeks we will participate in an ambitious study to decide if we should undertake a capital campaign for the parishes of the Moline area and Seton School. We have many needs. The Sacred Heart church building needs major maintenance projects including making the church building more accessible for those who are physically challenged. We would also like to provide other amenities that would enhance our worship space.
