There will be a re-enactment of the original Cornerstone Blessing held on Oct 23, 1919. On that historic day Cardinal Mercier traveled to Moline from Belgium to lay and bless the cornerstone of our new church. Festivities will begin with an outdoor Mass on Oct 20 at 11 a.m., weather permitting. The 9:00 Mass will be canceled on this day. Please bring your own lawn chairs. As the parish did 100 years ago, Sacred Heart has invited some special guests to join us in the anniversary celebration including the mayors of Moline and Rock Island, clergy from across the QC and the Diocese. The Belgian Consulate has been invited to send a representative. The procession that brought the Cardinal to church that day will be re-enacted with a procession around the Sacred Heart campus. There will be a showing of the items recently uncovered from a time capsule buried 100 years ago in the cornerstone. Contents of a brand new time capsule with various pieces of Sacred Heart’s modern-day life and history will also be on display. There will be food available for purchase from various vendors, and games of all sorts for the children.
