Ministry Spotlight: The Back 9

Latest Posts

This month we spoke with the Back 9 about their ministry providing social gatherings outside Mass for parishioners.

How does your ministry help the parish?

It provides a venue for people to meet and get to know the faces they see in church, in a social setting.

How long has your ministry been a part of the parish?

The group has existed for 36 years, starting in 1982.

When, where, and how often are your meetings?

Meetings are held the second Thursday from September through December, and February through May, in Culemans Hall. Our next meeting will be from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on April 12 in Culemans Hall. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. There will be music and wine, and new members are more than welcome to attend!

What is the most rewarding part of your ministry?

Seeing people enjoy a meal together, greeting each other and socializing with old friends and meeting new ones. It is always rewarding to have “first time” attendees.

What part of your ministry do you look forward to the most?

People coming forward with offers to host or support new activities. When the work is shared, there is little stress for any one person and when a variety of activities occurs, new faces tend to join!

Who should join your ministry? How would you convince them?

Anyone, married or single, layperson or religious, from Sacred Heart or area parishes are welcome. All are invited to bring new ideas for activities that can add a bit of variety to our lives and parish!
