What's an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion?

"Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion" is the formal title of laypeople who distribute the Eucharist during Mass. As the title implies, there are also "ordinary ministers" - those who are literally "ordained" to the ministry namely bishops, priests, and deacons. These ministers are usually the first in order to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ, the deacon being the customary distributor of the cup.

Second Annual Parish Picnic - Sunday July 8th

Be sure to mark your calendars for Sunday, July 8th, for the Second Annual Parish Picnic. We will again be at Steven’s Park at the back shelter. We will begin festivities at noon and eat, play and hang out until 2:00.

Growing as a Community

Recently we had a special event at our parish. It happens almost every year. We call it “mulch day.” The Garden Committee and others met at 8 a.m. in the morning and they spread mulch around our flower beds so that they will be weed free for most of the summer. We have several tons delivered and it is a massive job to disperse it.

Pope Francis: The Last Supper teaches us three foundational truths

Pointing to Jesus’ words during the Last Supper, Pope Francis offered meditations on love, service and humility during his homily at daily Mass on Thursday.

Second Hand Sale

This is our 15th Annual Sale, and each year, we have added more amenities to please our shoppers. We have something for men, women, children, and even your pet. The Boutique offer “special” items at very reasonable prices.

A Month of Milestones

Part of the appeal of Catholicism is that we have many special celebrations that mark milestones in our lives. During the month May we have First Communions and graduations here at Sacred Heart and Seton School.

Sacred Heart Capital Campaign Frequently Asked Questions

Sacred Heart parish, in conjunction with Seton Catholic School, Christ the King, St Mary’s Moline, St. Maria Goretti in Coal Valley and Our Lady of Peace in Orion are collectively conducting a Capital Campaign feasibility study. During April and May each parish will determine whether or not there is strong enough support to move forward in addressing the needs of each parish and Seton. If the parishes and parents indicate a high level of support, they would embark upon an ambitious Capital Campaign starting in fall of 2018.

May Crowning: May 13 2018

It may be one of your first “Catholic” memories: May Crowning. The songs are still— and always—in our heads. Hail, holy Queen enthroned above, oh Maria. Hail, mother of mercy and of love, oh Maria. Triumph all ye cherubim, Sing with us ye seraphim. Heaven and earth resound the hymn. Salve, Salve, Salve Regina.

Ministry Spotlight: The Back 9

This month we spoke with the Back 9 about their ministry providing social gatherings outside Mass for parishioners.

Jesus Risks Himself in Service

Pope Francis, speaking during his homily during the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at Regina Coeli prison, contextualized the Gospel passage from John in which Jesus washes his disciples’ feet.
