For this month’s Ministry Spotlight, we spoke to Don Lewis about the Pew Pals Committee. Pew Pals save the parish thousands of dollars in maintenance costs every year by volunteering their time and talents.

Pope Criticizes Politicians for Stoking Racism Over Immigration

Pope Francis excoriated politicians who foment fear of migrants, saying they were sowing violence and racism, and urged them to “practise the virtue of prudence” to help them integrate. The pope, who has made defence of migrants and refugees a major plank of his papacy, made his comments in a message prepared for the Roman Catholic Church’s World Day of Peace, which is celebrated on Jan. 1 each year.

Advent Vespers Series

Pope Francis: Courage is Needed for the Kingdom of God to Grow

To help the Kingdom of God grow, courage is needed to sow the mustard seed and mix the yeast, in the face of many who prefer a “pastoral care of conservation” without dirtying their hands. The Pope took his cue from Luke’s Gospel where Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed and yeast, which though small, “have a power within” to grow.
