Holy Week at Sacred Heart

April 8/9 - Palm Sunday
There will be a solemn procession and blessing of palms at all Masses, except 7:00 a.m.

April 13 - Holy Thursday
NO MORNING MASSES on this day. Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:00 p.m. At the end of the Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will be transferred to the “Garden,” where, in imitation of the Apostles, we are invited to stay awake and pray. Personal adoration before the Blessed Sacrament will end at midnight.

April 14 - Good Friday
The celebration of Mass is strictly prohibited on this day. Commemoration of our Lord’s Passion is
at 3:00 p.m. This traditional service includes the veneration of the Cross and the reception of Holy
Communion. This is a day of silence, fasting, and abstinence for all Catholics.

April 15 - Holy Saturday
The church is silent and bare today as we wait and pray. There are no morning Masses as we
prepare for the Solemn Easter Vigil. Blessing of Easter Foods at 10:15 a.m. in the St. Francis Chapel.

8:00 p.m. Solemn Vigil of the Resurrection – the Easter Vigil
The pinnacle of the Church’s year is this evening Mass that begins outdoors with the blessing of
the Easter Fire and the Paschal Candle. The “alleluias” resound as our adult candidates are received into full membership in our Church through Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion and youngsters are baptized. After the Vigil, all are invited to a reception for the new Catholics in Culemans Hall.

April 16 - Easter Sunday
We celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord with the renewal of Baptismal promises and the sprinkling of Easter water at our 7:00, 9:00, and 11:00 a.m. Masses.
